My weekend

It rained. The end.

No, seriously - the weekend was pretty entertaining. We spontaneously had the neighbors over with their new baby and hung out, talked trash and ate. I made a totally bangin' salsa and grilled burgers and catfish. I think Jim ate a pound of catfish and 4 cheeseburgers as well as about 1/2 pound of salsa. Dude can eat.

Then came Saturday. Keri went downstairs before me in the morning, and found a tiny sparrow on the floor of the computer room. Must have flown in while we had the back door open the night before. Jim smokes, and had to go out on the back deck so we traipsed in and out. Killian the crazy freak dog saw this little tiny bird and immediately had to put it in his mouth. Keri got it out with no problem and came back upstairs with it, asking me what we should do. Now I totally understand the circle of life concept, but when a tiny bird drops into my house, I feel that hospitality gene kick in. You don't just snap the neck of something that is a guest in your home unless it is threatening you. We were going to take it to the wildlife rehab place and hope they could do something with it - until it flew out of Keri's hand and lodged itself between the bunkbed and the wall. Thus I decided to let it alone for a while in hopes it would unlodge. It did. About an hour later it was dead like a hammer. Felt pretty bad about it, but not as bad as when the Bassett hound brought me the baby bunnies. She brought the first one ready for stew, and when she saw my reaction, promptly returned with another one she had treated much more carefully - alive and healthy, but it probably died later from fright.

I sent off my mother's day stuff, and came to work today. I should have stayed home and worked on the stupid sump pump in the basement which I noticed this morning is working sporadically, but I have meetings and regulatory deadlines.

Anybody got ideas about what I should do for Keri on Mother's Day? We're having brunch with her brother and mother in CT.

Mark - get a babysitter and take your wife on a date.

Pappa Rooster said...

we are doing that already.
movie dinner the whole works.
got her a foot bath massage yesterday does that count for anything

That counts. You could take her to a nail salon for a professional pedicure...

Mark should get Wendy a pedi and new fancy flipflops. She loves the flops and despises bad toenails.

Mollie - you could snatch this idea. I won't tell.

Mollie, did you get Mark's email? Should I take Abbie to the doc today?

I'm getting my mom a rose bush - per her orders. That's sad about that little bird but you know, it's just a bird. It should have stayed outside where it belongs. Sweet, huh? I'm full of animal compassion...
